A necktie is not only an accessory but the most important part of a suit. When you are dressed formally, you feel odd when you aren t wearing a tie. Neckties can come in several colors and materials. The selected ties should be matched with shirts and suits. Currently most suits come in black, gray or dark gray, blue, or brown, thus warm color neckties, such as coffee brown, dark red, and purple, are mostly appropriate. Medium light color neckties suit a person with a dark complexion, but neckties in dark or very light colors do not. In general, the match between a suit and a necktie should have layer feel. Both a light colored suit with a dark necktie and a dark suit with a light color necktie will look good. The width of neckties should also be coordinated with the width of shirt collar or suit collar. A small collared suit paired with a wide necktie and large pointy collared shirt matched with narrow ties are not appropriate.

Whether the colors of neckties, shirts, and suits match is another issue we should pay attention to. In general it is advisable to wear three colors or less. For example, a navy suit can go with a blue shirt and an azure necktie; of course, the tie can have some red or white stripes or other patterns. The necktie fashion rule of thumb is the contrast attraction; therefore, neckties in warm hues are worn with light colored suits and shirts, while ties in cooler blues and grays are marvelous matches for dark suits. In other words, light colored neckties and shirts are suitable for light gray suits; for dark suits, shirts should be in light color and neckties should be in dark color.

In addition, the choice of tie color should also be coordinated with the specific occasion. For instance you should wear bright ties for happy things, and darker ties for more solemn events. These are specific guidelines to follow when finding a tie to match a suit. Striped neckties are categorized into two models: British and American. The British style of stripes is to have it slant from top right to lower left, while the opposite orientation is the American style. In general, the suits of British or French style should go with British style neckties and the American or Italian suits must go with American style ties. A necktie will often represent someone s personality. A man who wears a short tie with a large knot is indicating that he is confident in his abilities, while a man with a tiny knot in his tie or one that is too tight indicates that he is not not a confident man. Accordingly the neckties should be worn lose to make it look befitting.

There is a certain method to tie neckties. You have no need to turn over the collar to wear a tie with the following tip. Button up your shirt first; hang the necktie outside the collar, press the wider end under the collar, pull the other end, and then your tie is caught in the middle of collar. Both ends should be drooping naturally with the wide end upon the narrow one and the appropriate length is that the tie tip is right on the waist line, if your necktie is tied well. If wearing a suit vest or a V collar sweater at the same time, the tie should be worn within the vest or sweater.
