There is a challenge to every portrait painter to please the beholder but there is also the challenge to fix a typical posture not to mention other details that capture the subject and brings it to life on the canvas even through the tiniest of brush strokes. Satisfied customers have mentioned how a female portraitist is well able to bring her subjects to life. This is regardless of how her portfolio consists of sensitive, moody, aristocratic, happy, relaxed, and alert faces which are not human ones.

She wanted to try her skills in painting any kind of animal but what she specializes in is painting portraits involving dogs, cats, and horses. Located in the Maplewood section of the borough is the home of this tall and slender woman and it has a studio where she works. About five years ago, she thought about combining her two loves which are art and animals.

The current project she is working on involves a horse running across a field for she has begun painting the animals in their entirety unlike before when she only painted the animals' heads. Interesting compositions is what they make according to her as she has created two or more even if the typical portrait is of a single animal. Her clients tell other people about her painting their pets and then these people ask her to paint more than one of their pets.

What a woman did was commission a portrait for each of her three wolfhounds. Differences exist here just as they do with people. As she goes to dog and horse shows, she takes her camera, portfolio, and business cards along. One of the essential elements when it comes to animal portraiture is a knowledgeable use of a camera for you will not have a model here that will be agreeing to hold still and pose for you. After she takes pictures of her subjects using one or two rolls of film she will then use these for the portraits. For her to be able to see the true color of its coat and to perceive its character, she finds it important to handle the animal if possible and spend time with it.

The relationship that exists between the animal and its owner is also something she needs to see. When she combines her view of the animal and theirs, what she does is try to capture it as closely as possible. The expression in the eyes is a key feature that conveys the personality of the animal in a portrait and the conformation of the animal also must be portrayed accurately.

For show animals especially, conformation is an important thing. What you have to know is a lot of animals other than knowing what kind of conformation is correct. So much can be gained from something like animal portraiture. Because he was so pleased at the unveiling, he could not stop chuckling and shaking his head.

These portraits are often ordered to be gifted to animal lovers but there are some who commission portraits of their own beloved pets. What experts have mentioned is that the portraits are kept as special keepsake after the animal has died. Sometimes it's possible to create a portrait from photographs alone, if the pictures are good enough and, using pictures, she has painted a pet that's already deceased.

What she uses are pastels, oils, and pencil. Normally, she works on only one project at a time. There is no specific time frame given for she knows that it is never good for artists to be under pressure. She paints one or two portraits a month. After finishing each painting, she takes a break since painting can take a toll on the painter and even if she does try to paint everyday she still takes a break during the weekends.
