Everyone loves shooting their pets, proof is the fact that after children they are the most popular subject for photography. Utilizing these tips can lead you to clicking the perfect shots of your pets. Although any lens can give good pictures, ease of photographing pets comes only by using a telephoto zoom lens with 80 to 200mm as size.

When using a telephoto lens it is possible to stand at a distance far away that the pet does not scare off. Natural shots are impossible unless the pet does not know what is happening around him. You can get a great picture of your pet by clicking from his level. Being on our hands and knees is the only way to get good pictures since most pets are smaller than us. It is particularly worth the effort when the picture has the pet looking straight into the lens.

Clicking a picture of your pet is possible only if you are quick and ready. To be ready to click the picture, one must have the pet already in focus and the exposure already set. Refocusing or resetting the metering shouldn't be done.

One need not worry about the exposure when shooting pets. This is easy to achieve by using the camera on auto mode or using a light meter to set the exposure. However owners of very dark or white animals must bracket.

The meter reading should be overshot by one or two f steps for clicking a white pet. A lower f stop by one or two stops would capture better darker shades while clicking a darker pet.

The answer to what needs to be focused is very simple. A photo having the pet's eye in focus can have the rest out of focus and no one would notice. Having the eye in focus is important to make sure the picture stays appealing.

If the pet has a dark eye with dark fur or feathers, we must try and capture a highlight on the eye. The effect is possible by using an artificial light or by turning the pet's face towards the sun. The background can decide how perfect your pet's photo comes out. Utilize a plain background when positioning your pet. The simpler the background, the better your pet will stand out in the picture.

Having a friend around while you click your pet is a nice idea. Using your friend as a distraction you can get good pictures of your pet. Pets that trail you all curious to find out what you are doing can be clicked like this. Getting perfect pictures of your pet is possible by using these tips and a lot of patience.
