Knowing how to stop heartburn during pregnancy can really make life easier for any woman who is expecting a child.

Suffering from heartburn during pregnancy is virtually a given. Very few women will avoid the discomfort of heartburn pain while they are carrying their child.

The major reason as to why heartburn occurs in pregnant women is the changes that happen to their bodies. Basically when you are expecting a baby, there are a lot of hormonal changes that are going on. These changes tend to weaken the valve which is attached between the esophagus and the stomach.

Normally once food has finished entering the stomach, this valve closes shut so that when the stomach produces stomach acid to digest the food, it will not be able to spill out of the stomach. However when you are pregnant, the valve is more relaxed and cannot close properly, resulting in the stomach acid escaping.

This is what leads to that uncomfortable burning sensation that you get with heartburn and acid reflux. The symptoms can be mild, where you only feel a little discomfort. They can also be a lot more severe, up to the point where you feel that you may be bringing up the food that you have just eaten. It can even at times feel like you are having an heart attack, however this is mainly in cases of severe heartburn.

How To Stop Heartburn During Pregnancy by following these tips:

Always make sure that you do not wear tight fitting clothing around your waist. This puts extra pressure on the stomach which can push the stomach acid up.

The symptoms of heartburn are more common at night. To avoid being waken up by heartburn pain, make sure that you avoid eating any food for at least 3 hours before going to bed. Also try to prop yourself up by using a couple of extra pillows. This will make t harder for the acid from your stomach to travel up your body.

Try to avoid anything that is going to reduce pressure on the stomach. Try not to bend from the waist if you need to pick something up. Also try to keep your legs straight and elevated while you are sitting down.

It is much better to eat more regularly throughout the day, and in small portions. This means that your stomach needs less acid, and it helps to reduce the symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.

Try to avoid foods that cause heartburn. Citrus fruits, high fatty foods, tomatoes, and spicy foods are well known to cause heartburn. Also be careful what you drink, coffee and fizzy drinks can act as heartburn triggers.

Although in virtually all cases heartburn when pregnant is going to happen, you can take steps to reduce the causes of heartburn pain. Hopefully after reading the tips in this article should have given you some idea as to how to stop heartburn during pregnancy.
