Don't drink anything but water. You might find this hard to believe but one of the easiest ways to drastically cut down on how many calories you consume is to cut out the soda, the juice, the energy drinks, the booze and all of the other drinks you take in except for water. Cold water is best. Water does not have any calories. It can help keep you properly hydrated throughout the day as well as improve your overall level of health. It all depends on the type of soda you drink but cutting out even two servings of the stuff can reduce your caloric intake by around two hundred calories. Not only does replacing other drinks with water cut down on your calories it also cuts down on your sugar and high fructose corn syrup consumption and cut out other ingredients that might be harmful for your health.
In addition to cardio and aerobic training, make sure to get in some strength training as well. You probably only think that you need to work on your endurance and raise your heart rate. The fact is that if you don't increase your muscle strength you won't ever be able to increase the intensity of your fitness routine. The gradual increasing of your workouts is how you get in shape and stay fit.
If you hit an exercise plateau you will have a harder time staying in shape and losing weight. Strength training is a must if you want to get healthier.
Balance is important. There are plenty of different (fad) diets that will encourage you to cut whole types of foods from your diet. Most of these fad diets want you to cut out carbohydrates which isn't a good idea. The fact is that your body needs carbohydrates for energy. The trick is simply to practice some moderation when you eat carbohydrates. Stay away from fad diets that tell you that you will only lose weight if you cut out whole sections of a balanced food intake. You need to eat a well balanced diet to stay healthy. Anything that tells you anything else is a fake.
