Golfers elbow or medial epicondylitis is a damage due to repetitive use of the tendons attaching your epicondyle of the elbow to the forearm muscles. This problem is common to golfers and other people who overuse their forearm muscle.

The first thing felt when you have golfers elbow is pain just below the bony area of your elbow. If you touch the bony area of your elbow you will feel more intense pain. Along the inner side of the fore arm the soreness reach the back of the palm. Over time this reduces the efficiency of the hand to the point that doing very simple activities using your wrist and forearm becomes harder. Holding a cup, shaking hands or using a pen may increase your pain.

Golfers elbow is alleviated by medication, surgery, some home remedies and exercises. Depending on whom you consult, you may be suggested to undergo one or a combination of more than one of these five forms of treatments.

Keeping you arm in rest is the beginning point of the natural home cure for golfers elbow. Regular icing using an ice pack is very essential. It is advisable to wrap the ice pack using a bandage to reduce swelling and inflammation.Resting the elbow above the heart level is also recommended to reduce swelling .

A doctor may prescribe non steroidal anti inflammatory medicines. But this gives only temporary relief. If the problem is at its peak, surgeries like making an incision, ossatripsy, cutting the tendon or removing inflamed tissue is done. Side effects of golfers elbow surgery involves weakness in the arm, infection, blood loss, blood vessel damage, damage of nerve, loss of strength, a scar on the skin surface etc.

Few of exercises for golfers elbow are wrist extension, hammering, forearm twist, prayer stretch etc. According to many experts exercise is the most effective remedy for golfers elbow. However, remember that if you do wrong exercise or right exercise in a wrong way your problem may be intensified. It is highly recommended that you talk to an expert for an exercise plan.
