It is not hard to imagine that getting a new look to your home can be an expensive affair. However this doesn t have to be the case, with there being many ways to add little touches, accent colors and innovative new concepts. One such route to enhancing your home s decor is through improving your doors.
To increase the sidewalk appeal of your home, you can achieve a lot with a showcase front door. If you want to really stand out on your street, vibrant colors such as reds, yellows and bright blues are excellent. However, before deciding on the style and color, it is worthwhile discussing which materials work best in your area with your local retailer.
Obviously, the main purpose of a front door is to allow access; homes tend not to work so well if you cannot get into them easily! However, it is also worth considering such things as light, ventilation and of course security; particularly if you are not residing in a gated community.
Internally, things get a little easier of course. Security is not so much of an issue of course, and the materials you can use are limited only by your budget and imagination.
Wood of course is a fantastic product for a host of household items, particularly for doors. There are too many woods to mention that can be turned into beautiful and practical doors. They can either open up a living space, and create a light and open space, or alternatively create that welcoming and cozy feel.
Metal doors are also worthy of mention, though these tend not to work so well inside; proving to be a little too heavy and industrial looking for most spaces. However, working with glass, some stunning and modernistic looks can be achieved with professional metalwork.
Some internal doors of course may need a little more work than others; those that lead to the kitchen for example. These should tend to be safety doors and fireproofed, whilst they should also not allow cooking smells to escape from the cooking area.
When looking at doors would work best throughout your home, it is of course important to match materials and styles to your existing furniture, carpets, floors and decor. If you are in doubt however; go for something neutral and affordable in order you do not waste money on something you are not sure of.
If you are on a budget, but still want to do something to increase the appeal of your home, you could of course look into dressing your existing doors with panels moldings or casings.
There are a number of panel moldings available, and some fantastic looks can be achieved for a fraction of the cost of a new set of doors. Most types just stick on with strong adhesives. However, the panels may damage the integrity of the doors when removed, so do bear this in mind before committing to anything and do not rush into any decisions.
