The UK police force is one of the most diverse and interesting organisations in the world. It has members of every race, background, colour and religion and can provide a challenge, yet also a responsible position in society for the right person. Joining the police force in the UK could be a great career move for some people and may prove to be an exciting and active role to play.

There is no question that you have to be an appropriate person before joining the police force in the UK. There are many criteria to be assessed due to the very diverse and challenging nature of being a police man/woman. There are mathematical, spelling and personal tests to be carried out and of course, you must make the grade in the gym before being handed a truncheon and handcuffs.

There are, however, many rewarding aspects to becoming a police officer and these can make the job entirely worthwhile. The retirement age is much lower than in other professions and you can hardly put a price on job security in such a time of economic hardship. These are all very big positives and there are many other benefits, albeit smaller in magnitude such as gym usage and you will never have to do so much as one hour of jury service.

The job itself can be very rewarding given that you are an appropriate candidate. Firstly you can be giving something back to the community on a daily basis; very few people can claim to be doing that. There is also the chance to meet a whole range of new and interesting people and also some scope for career advancement. The pay isn't particularly bad either and it will increase each year as you amass more and more experience.

Joining the police force in the UK is not for everyone however and only the most suitable applicants are ever chosen. As long as you are over the age of 18, or 16 in some cases such as PCSOs, you can apply to join the police force. The testing procedure is, of course, difficult but as long as you think that the job is right for you and you are committed to joining the force then you are likely to stand a very good chance of being accepted.

There is a great opportunity to become part of a team if you are lucky enough to joint the police force and this can be incredibly satisfying for many people. Being a part of a team can be rewarding and you could establish very long term friendships whilst working within the police.

To sum it up then: Joining the police in the UK is not a guaranteed outcome and you will have to work to get a position as well as possess the right attitude and level of responsibleness. Providing that you have all of these attributes and you are selected then it can be an incredibly rewarding career.
