Exercise

Just like any other athlete, singers too need to warm up their voice before singing to avoid strain. Here are some effective warm up exercises:

• Slowly count to four and take a deep breath. Hold it while counting to four again. Then, let your breath out with a hissing sound while you count to eight. Do this exercise a few times.

• Take a very deep breath, then sing “ahhhh” until your breath run out. Quietly start your voice and then make it louder and louder as you let your breath out.

• Another technique is sironing. This technique lets you warm up your voice range. Start as low as you can, then go up to the highest note that you can, and then finally go back down to your lowest note again.

• Sing your voice scales with each vowel sound, do the eight notes up and back again.

• Another exercise is by doing some tongue twister as fast as you can to warm up your tongue, your lips, your cheeks, and your mouth.

Breathe With Your Diaphragm

One of the considered most important vocal technique to enable you to sing your karaoke songs like a professional is to breathe with your diaphragm. Diaphragm is the area below your rib cage. You can feel it expand to bring air when you take a deep breathe. I advise you to concentrate keeping your lungs expanded using the entire space provided when your diaphragm is expanded. When you try to breathe out, do not push out the air, instead let is escape with your melodious notes. With practice, you will notice that your voice is stronger and easier to control.

Raising Your Soft Palate

Soft palate is the area at the top of the back of your mouth. You can feel it rise up when you are starting to yawn. When it rises, it will open up your throat. It is important to concentrate on keeping this soft palate raised while you are singing and your voice will sound better.

Keeping Voice Box Low

It is also important how to learn how to keep your larynx or what we call voice box, low. You can feel your voice box in your neck, located right at the front of your throat. Put your hand on it, and practice vocalizing without the larynx rising up. This technique may take a while. When you have accomplished this technique, move on to practicing your karaoke songs while keeping your larynx down.

Relax Your Body

Another vocal technique is trying to relax your body. Release the tension from your body, especially in the upper body.
You’ve just learned professional vocal techniques to help you sing great karaoke songs. Practice those vocal techniques and rest assured that you’ll have a quality voice.
