This system provides an invisible dome for your pet to play and helps you in training them to stay within that dome. It is guaranteed safe and will not harm your pet during the training period.
How It Works
The Petsafe wireless fence uses a transmitter to broadcast radio signals around your house. The range of the signal defines the boundary of the invisible wall. If your pet walks into the boundary while wearing the receiver, he or she will hear a beeping sound. If your dog remains in the boundary zone, the receiver will deliver a mild static correction. The correction itself is completely adjustable depending on the pet’s normal mood and size.
Training Your Pet
Installation of the system is painless and would take a maximum of two hours. Once you are done and you are sure that the receiver is working, you can proceed with the training. It is very important to note that the system is primarily designed to help your dog. Though it also does wonders in containing them, using the system for entirely this purpose and without proper training will only do more harm than good to both you and your dog.
Training with the Warning Signs
The first thing that your dog needs to learn is associating the flags and the beeping sounds with the boundary zone. You can even do this without your pet having to wear the receiver first. Walk the dog toward the boundary zone until he sees the flags that are lined up. Have him continue walking until he hears the beep. At this point, help your dog get back into the play area where the beeping will stop.
It is also possible to completely skip this part altogether and let the dog wear the receiver comfortably while letting him pass the boundary zone. However, it is very important that you help your pet walk back into the play area when you he starts getting the static correction. It will also help that you give him praises or a reward if he can immediately get back to the play area. This training will usually last for just fifteen minutes a day.
Taking Away the Leash
Once you can start with the first phase of the training, you can gradually allow the dog to move around. You can step outside the boundary area with your dog’s favorite toy or food. The dog must be able to clearly see that you are beyond the flags, and you can even emphasize this by waving at him. Always praise or reward your dog whenever he doesn’t cross the boundary.
You can also use other family members to try to entice your dog from the crossing the line. As soon as your dog is aware that he cannot just cross the boundary, you can already train him when it is permitted to do so such as saying okay or giving a thumbs up. Then you can remove the receiver. If he is properly trained, he will still follow your commands.
