In now time flat the Christmas season will be upon us. Christmas means friends and family visiting from far and wide. What do the principles and practices of Feng Shui teach us in the preparation or our homes and offices for this most festive time of year?
To some families the Christmas season means a time of vacation and travel. The kids are on school break. It may be to visit family and friends offshore or just down the interstate a couple hundred miles. Still it’s an exciting time of year to those who travel – with crowded airports as well as booking into hotels and motels – at the peak season of the travel and tourism industry.
What about those of us who stay home , or close to home and wish to ready ourselves with proper preparation of our homes , offices and abodes to create the most welcome feelings and best surroundings for both visiting and traveling friends and family?
After all it’s not only a time of visiting but also a time of year for entertainment – be it staff Christmas parties or just plain old looked forward to Christmas and New Years dinners.
First of all its time for a fall or pre winter cleanup. Feng Shui teaches harmony. Clutter is the exact opposite of the harmony aspired to by aspirants of Feng Shui its way of life and philosophies.
First of all give home a good and thorough cleaning. Be more than through. It’s most important to start first with your kitchen areas. If you are strapped for time first and foremost it is the kitchen, eatery and dining room areas to begin with. Remove all clutter. Banish clutter from your home, office and environs. Its just good practice and good medicine. Who wants to be a pack rat? Clean out your freezer as well as your refrigerator / refrigerators. Clean off of outside exteriors of your fridge as well.
If it is cluttered – this time with magnets or glued on post it notes, reduce these to a minimum. To a great degree we never know the full effects of magnets and magnetism on our life and others lives.
Next work through your pantry areas to clean, declutter and organize. A solid cleaning of these areas is in order. First of course a solid workout with a good broom. Next wash the floor areas thoroughly – and perhaps more than one time. Lastly vacuum any area of lint and dust. If the rugs need shampooing – in carpeted dining room or entertainment areas, then rent a rug shampooer or have it done professionally. If need be replace worn out and grubby looking oven mitts as well as towels. and dish clothes
Along with the kitchen clean up make sure that you clean your oven and counter tops. Replace any burner pans, and even elements if need be. Safety first as well as cleanliness. Lastly for these cooking, canteen and entertainment areas take one more thorough inspection and examination before moving on.
It is the time of year of course for entertaining others. To create good karma and feeling purchase a dozen large oranges and place them prominently in a fruit bowl on your dining room or kitchen table or tables. Take the time and efforts required to cook your friends and family’s favorite foods and meals. Remember to plan ahead. It is almost as if you are running a hotel restaurant. You may need more than one trip to your local supermarket with all of it varieties of food ingredients. On top of that you may need one or more impromptu trips to your local grocery store with the largest and freshest selection of vegetables, fruits and produce.
In the end it can be said that it is all worth the effort. Feng Shu !
