There are several styles of wedding dresses from which to choose? How do you know if one is preferred over another without trying on numerous various styles? Often times the dress has a totally different look when hung in the display window. Who should consider sheath bridal dresses; and who should avoid them?

The sheath design may also be called a column style bridal dress. It is cut to hang straight down across the bride's body. It is a versatile style dress that fits closely to the body's curves. It is suitable for formal or informal weddings.

The sheath style is especially complimentary to the slender physique. It is constructed of one piece of material and does not help to hide any problem areas such as wide hips. It is most flattering to the body which is lean. It could be unflattering if you have a body that is pear shaped or a significantly curved body. But for the slender build it can be the ultimate choice for the sleek and elegant wedding.

There are some materials that will help the dress hold its column shape. These are full bodied fabrics to help hold the form. Brocade, moire, and damask all are very good choices. Duchess satin and taffeta also works well for the sheath wedding dress.

The column style dress can be made of different lengths. Generally, the shorter the hemline, the less formal the dress. Knee length is more casual than the traditional floor length.

The basic design of the dress is the sheath. The whole look and feel can be changed by simply altering the neckline and sleeve length. This style works well for the strapless top; but can be equally flattering with short or long sleeves. Its basic one piece design allows for much versatility in the bodice portion of the dress. The possibilities are endless.

It will ultimately be up to the bride as to whether or not this style will work. If she can wear it and feel comfortable it is a great choice. The simple design makes adding accessories a very simple process. A nice shawl or pearl necklace can be all that is needed for the final touch. But the design is stunning enough that just lacy sleeves may add the perfect touch without the added expense.

This design is a very good option for the slender bride.
