Sometimes the temptation to give in to a sweetie craving is just too much to bear. For those times, I like to whip up something that the whole family can enjoy (mainly so I don't pig-out on my own!). In this article, I have included a few recipes that are my family's favorite "guilty pleasures." When your tummy is rumblin' for something gooey and sweet, I hope you will try one of the following recipes!

Apple Pie with Crumble Topping

Ingredients:
1 (9-in) deep dish pie crust
5 cups of apples (thinly sliced)
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup white sugar + 1/3 cup of white sugar
6 tablespoons butter

Directions:
Pour the apples into the (unbaked) pie crust. Arrange them as evenly as possible. In a small bowl, mix together half a cup of white sugar with the cinnamon, then sprinkle the mixture over the apples. Mix the remaining 1/3 cup of sugar with the flour. Cut the butter in small pieces and mix into the flour until it becomes crumbly. Shake or spoon this over the apples. Top with a sprinkle of brown sugar, if you like, then bake at 400 degrees F for about 40 minutes.

Fudge Brownie Trifle

Ingredients:
1 box of brownie mix (prepared and cooled)
2 (8 oz) containers of whipped cream
1 box of instant chocolate pudding
1 can of condensed milk
1/2 cup of water
chocolate shavings made from your favorite chocolate bar

Directions:
Cut the brownie into bite-sized chunks, then set aside. In a large bowl, add together the pudding mix, water, and condensed milk. Mix very well. Gently fold in one container of whipped cream. Work it slowly until there are no streaks. In a trifle dish (or several glasses, if you want to make individual portions) make a layer of chocolate brownies on the bottom. Top with a layer of the chocolate mixture, then top with a layer of whipped cream. Repeat the layer sequence until you reach the top of the glass or bowl. Sprinkle a few chocolate shavings onto the whipped cream, then refrigerate for at least 8 hours.

Easy Cherry Crumble

Ingredients:
1 box of yellow cake mix
1/2 stick of butter
2 cans of cherry pie filling
A few scoops of ice cream for the side (if desired)

Directions:
In a square 9 x 9 inch pan, spread both cans of the cherry pie filling until they create an even layer. Sprinkle the entire contents of the yellow cake mix evenly over the cherries. Cut the half-stick of butter into 6 squares and place randomly on top of the cake mixture (this will ensure that it doesn't get too dry while baking). Bake at 350 degrees F until the crumbly top appears a nice golden brown. Serve warm with a scoop or two of ice cream on the side.

Black Forest Cupcakes

Ingredients:
1 pkg of chocolate cake mix
1 can of cherry pie filling
1 (250 g) package of Philadelphia cream cheese (softened)
1 1/2 cups of whipped cream (thawed)
1 egg
2 tbsp of sugar

Directions:
Prepare the chocolate cake batter as directed on the box. Set this aside. In a bowl, mix together the cream cheese, sugar, and the egg until they are well blended. Remove 3/4 cup of the cherry pie filling and set aside—this will be used as garnish. Spoon about 2 tablespoonfuls of cake batter into 24 paper-lined muffin cups. Place 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture on top of each batter. Place 1 tablespoon of the cherry pie filling on top of the cream cheese. Cover with the remaining cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 25 minutes. Allow the cupcakes to cool for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Top with whipped cream and a spoonful of cherry pie filling. Chill until it's time to serve.
