Phoenix can get over onehundred and twenty degrees in the summer months. After a lengthy week of fighting traffic and existing under the hot sun breaking free from the city for cooler temperatures is on a lot of minds. heading north is a swift solution to escape the heat and retreat to the cooler mountain air. However with hundreds of Phoenician thinking the same thing you might find yourself competing for a spot to stay, and find yourself still battling traffic. Avoiding the crowds may mean that you have to drive a little further, but it will be worth it to find a location in the mountains you can call your own for a weekend.
During the summer Flagstaff and Sedona arefull of tourist visiting the Grand Canyon and Southern Arizona locals avoiding the heat. So if you arelooking to avoid the crowds you may want to stay away from these 2 locations. Although the luxuries of lodging in a Sedona resort are tempting I suggest drive a little further north up highway 89A. North of Sedona you will find awesome rental cabins off the beaten track that offer privacy and excellent weather. Staying in an one of these cabins you get to experience all the wonders of nature, but are still just a short drive away from both Sedona and Flagstaff. You can dine in town and escape to your cabin for privacy and relaxation.
If you require even more privacy then a trip to the Mogollon Rim may be a better match for you. Just 60 miles Northeast of Phoenix you will find the agreeable town of Payson. In Payson you will have all the luxuries of any city and you have your pick of hotels and private vacation homes. Traveling Northwest of Payson you will find two small private mountain communities called Strawberry and Pine. You can get a private rental cabin and spend your weekend relaxing in the mountains enjoying the slow pace and wildlife. Traveling east of Payson you will run into the communities of Christopher Creek, Forest Lakes and Heber. If you are a fisherman these towns offer quick access to lakes and streams that are ripe for fishing. Being so close to The Valley of the Sun the Mogollon Rim is a popular destination for many who are evading the heat. Planning your lodging arrangements in advance is a must if you want first dibs at a rental cabin.
Traveling a little further east you will find the Arizona White Mountains. Southeast of the Mogollon Rim you are greeted by the towns of Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, and Greer. This area is a popular ski destination during the winter months and you can find great deals on rental cabins during the summer months. While Show Low is a good sized mountain town, Pinetop, Lakeside, and Greer and very small and offer maximum privacy. Greer offers some of the finest lodging in the country along with great food, and easy access to fishing and hiking. If you want to truly escape the rate race of the city, have the wonders of nature, and breathe cool mountain air you can go wrong staying in Greer.
