Preschool is the best time to teach kids about outer space because of their extreme fascination and curiosity about what's out there. A kid will always be amazed about the sky getting dark when it is time for sleep and how it turns into blue in the morning. They are very curious about the heavenly bodies and everything related to space. Teaching this lesson to a preschool science class should involve fun lectures and games to get the students' full attention. Setting up a mini game that will teach them about stars and asteroids can be a fun activity. Use some aluminum pie plates as asteroids and place them on the ground in different distances. Have the students hop on each plate as part of the hopping game. Another idea is to draw a big solar system on the ground and let a group of students stand on the innermost planet. If they answer the trivia question correctly, they will move to another planet.
Another way of providing fun science lessons for kids is to create a space station model. This will let the students use their imagination by allowing them to invent other parts of a space station. You can also hang models of the planet made from Styrofoam balls in front of their space station to let them have an outer space ambience.
Letting the students from preschool science class create their own model of the solar system will help them understand the different planets and other heavenly bodies. Film viewing, science fiction movies, outer space documentaries and planetarium visits are just some of the other activities that will surely excite the children.
