This film I'm told is from a short story and I am intrigued how it may stand up to approximately two hours of screen time.
I don't consider the audience knew what to expect from this film produced in South Africa. The trailer looked beneficial and mysterious presumably creating a half complete cinema on the 1pm showing. It began off very well in documentary mode setting up up the story. Following the shock from the thick South African accents and attempts at humor calling the aliens 'prawns' the story wandered along with a barrage of integration between humans and aliens. Throughout the film when the aliens spoke there were subtitles for the audience to understand what they had been saying but I do not comprehend how the humans knew what they were saying. The F word was utilised a lot of times in dialogue and across the bottom with the screen. I wonder if the director believed this would bring realism to the action?
The story then continued losing for an even though its documentary setting. An idiot of a leader was identified to move the aliens to an additional web page with attempted humor at knocking on doors and asking them to leave. He is then impregnated using a fuel source that begins to change his DNA to alien.
Meanwhile the alien ship using a bit missing stands ominously within the sky. The missing element buried into the ground is released like an afterthought early within the documentary piece. As soon because the leader begins to develop an alien arm the establishment prefer to dissect him and put a sadistic military commander on his trail. The aliens while getting superior weaponry linked to their very own DNA with only themselves having the ability to fire them, by no means do, and run about like aggressive headless chickens. The story sad to say goes nowhere and gradually returns to documentary showing the feelings of the lives which have been affected.
As a lover of science fiction my gut feeling is the fact that two screenwriters got together and concocted a cascade of suggestions that changed quite a few times more than the writing period which in turn led to a poor story line. The professionalism with the visual and special effects held it all collectively and at 1 point did have a great pace with visual excitement. This was nowhere close to a comedy spoof and in this age of economic misery individuals are searching for escapism. I assume the director was trying to portray a message of some variety but the satire was Puerile.
Films like Van Helsing according to fantasy and myths, seems far more realistic because of a powerful storyline along with a definite climax. This really is not classic science fiction but far more to be watched while you want a knockabout alien film.
