hard drives are becoming faster and faster every day, this makes it so upgrading your hard drive is almost always the possibility. When you install a new hard drive you can often use your old hard drive as a second drive for storage. Using Windows 7 makes this task much simpler than you'd expect. Something you need to keep in mind is that just like all people die, all drives eventually crash, so knowing how to replace your old drive is important. First of all you need to buy yourself a new drive of the same type that you initially had either SATA or IDE.
Now it's time to perform surgery, you're going to open up your computer's case or if you have a laptop you go to flip it over and take the plate off the bottom. You're going to find your hard drive and examine where the cables plug in your dead hard drive or hard drive you wish to replace. This is obviously where you're going to plug the cables into your new hard drive. Now you're going to remove the screws and/or trays holding the hard drive, make sure you save the screws, then slide the new hard drive in the old one's place in screw it back into place. Now you're going to plug in the new drives data cable and power cable. Now it's time to reinstall your Windows system image so that you can have all the files you had on your old hard drive.
