Ever felt tired waking up from what you think was supposed to be a long and restful sleep? Ever felt yourself succumbing to the need to sleep during the daytime because for some reason your sleep wasn t just good enough even though you slept for eight hours? If you re answers to these questions are YES, then you might probably have Obtrusive Sleep Apnea.
Obtrusive Sleep Apnea and the Layman
What is Obtrusive Sleep Apnea and how does this affect you? Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder characterized by the unconscious sleep pauses a person takes while sleeping. This episode, also commonly called an apnea, last for at least ten seconds and thus makes the person suffering from it miss one or a few breaths. The problem with this sleeping disorder is that it happens throughout the person s entire sleep and therefore doesn t give them the restful sleep that they need. In fact, studies have shown that people who suffer from sleep apnea wake up feeling very much tired even if they sleep for eight hours or something like that.
A good amount of people are smitten by such a sleeping disorder. Take note, sleep apnea isn t contagious, but it s effects on a person s sleeping patterns and habits will eventually effect their sleeping habits more than they know. Going to work fatigued and in need of a nap isn t good for you nor is it good for your career, is it?
CPAP masks versus Sleep Apnea
A PAP (Positive Airway Pressure) is a method of respiratory ventilation originally developed in the treatment of Obtrusive Sleep Apnea. This is also currently used in Intensive Care Units (ICU) in hospitals to help patients suffering from type 1 or 2 respiratory failures. Devices related to PAP treatment are called CPAP masks or respironics masks.
So what are CPAP masks? A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) mask allows the conintuous flow of regulated air into the nasal cavity allowing a patient to have a constant supply of air at the right time.
Still Tired?
If you have been feeling from a chronic sense of fatigue despite a good night s sleep and you think that it is affecting your performance at work as well as your own personal life, it would be a wise course of action to go and visit your physician. Depending on which particular countries you live in, the availability of CPAP masks vary.
In some countries like the US, patients are only allowed to purchase CPAP masks when they have been diagnosed of Obtrusive Sleep Apnea and they have a doctor s prescription. In other countries like Canada, it is readily available to the public. You may easily rent it or buy it from different manufacturer websites.
As mentioned above, you can either rent or purchase a respironics mask. But it would be best to buy one since the CPAP masks would have to be configured according to your medical needs. And since these devices aren t cheap, it would be best if you maintain it in a daily and weekly manner to prolong its shelf life and usage. These masks might be the only way to alleviate or cure these daytime fatigue spells...
