You may be waiting for your wireless dog fence package to arrive or are just about to open the box. Either way, in less than 2 hours after you have opened your package, you will be able to keep your dogs away from harm safely and without the use of leashes and walls. But note that though your wireless dog fence is already very good out of the box, there are several things you can do to make the most of the device.
Maximize the play area of your pet. Remember that the point of the wireless dog fence is not purely for containment. It is to create a comfortable play area for your pet while preventing them from crossing to other people’s property. You can lengthen the boundary by adjusting the two controls found on the transmitter. One sets the signal from low to high while the other makes finer increments of the range. You can make a circular barrier as small as 10 feet wide or as large as 180 feet. Then again, you may have already done this, but as soon as your dog becomes better trained, you can start extending the boundary even if it crosses to other people’s property. Just make sure you use the boundary flags.
Place more boundary flags. The purpose of the flags is to alert your pet that he is very close to the boundary. If the flags are placed too far apart, your dog may not notice them, and he may end up getting a static correction even when he did not intend to cross. This will only confuse and increase the length of his training. Later on, when your dog is getting comfortable with the wireless fence, you can move the boundary farther back. If some sections cross to other property, simply place flags on the actual boundary. Your dog should still avoid crossing since he understands what the flags mean.
Adjust the receiver collars. The static correction serves as the final reminder of the dogs that they have crossed the boundary zone. Having said that, in order to for the dogs to be more comfortable, the correction can be modified to fit his character and sensitivity. The short contact points can also be replaced with long ones to ensure a good fit. If you noticed that the neck of your dog is starting to show redness, remove the receiver for a few hours. If the redness continues, bring your dog to a veterinarian to have him treated.
Let them undergo training. The main purpose of the system is to provide an opportunity of training your dog to stay within an area rather than just containing him. This the reason why there are boundary flags and warning beeps in the receiver. For 15 minutes every day you can start familiarizing your pet with the flags and the beeping alarm. After a few days, you can let your dog experience the static correction but help him to get back to the play area quickly. Then you test him by waving things of interest and see if he can control his actions. Make sure that he is rewarded after his every good action to reinforce the training.
