As I anxiously waited at the local coffee shop for singer/songwriter Lux Livid's arrival, I wasn't sure what to expect. As Lux walked through the doors, she immediately commanded the attention of everyone in the room. At this point. yes, I was officially intimidated.
She showed up a fashionably 20 minutes late looking like batman's new girl friend, wearing high heels, tight latex pants and a top that screamed of self-confidence. I not really a fashion expert but I would describe her look as a cross between Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga.
She orders a double espresso, throws herself down in a chair saying "Let's do this".
I quickly compose myself, physically startled by her stunning beauty and forwardness, and asked her the first question:
At what point in life did you realize being a singer/songwriter was what you wanted to do?
LL: I have always loved music. I don't think I ever went through the "I wanna be a fireman" phase. I knew this was going to be my future somehow.
What's the best time of day for you to do your writing?
LL: I'm like a vampire. I work at night. I'm lucky to have very patient and/or deaf neighbors.
Do you come up with the lyrics or the song title first?
LL: I don't have rules about that. When I first started writing songs, I would write out the lyrics first, like a poem. Sometimes I'll start with a concept and sometimes I'll start with the music. It really just depends.
Where does your inspiration come from?
LL: Breakups, horror movies, general mishaps, revenge and nightmares. Oh, and Perez Hilton.
How much truth and real life experience goes into your writing?
LL: I would say everything stems from something that is true.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be?
LL: That's a tough one, does it have to be just one? I guess if I had to choose one it would be Barney the dinosaur. Yup. That would be an interesting mix.
Are you aware of troll face?
LL: I'm a little embarrassed to say that I don't know who that is. Is that bad?
