Some of the world’s famous songwriters and singers are renowned for their nasal voices, example of these are Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. These artists are rich, famous and looked up to, but they are nasal. I’m not saying that are not talented, they are! But they both never got to learn how to sing without sounding nasal. Both of them obviously sing through their nasal which is not right, it can cause you problems in the long run.

If you are not planning to follow the footsteps of these two artists, then you need to learn to sing without the nasal sound. Because a nasal voice’s sound is very distinct, it is important to find a way to sing properly by using your lungs, your diaphragm and your vocal chords to get the right notes and pitch.

You will have longer singing life if you take time to learn to sing the correct way. It is important not to force the notes through your nasal passages to be able to produce notes and pitch that you like. Using the correct singing technique you will extend the range of your voice and enables you to hit high notes.

It can be very difficult to learn to sing without sounding nasal, especially for those people who are singing for a span of time already. But i assure you that you can still learn. It can also help to record your own voice singing your favourite song and listen to your voice if you are in doubt as to whether or not you sing like that. If still you cannot identify that you sound nasal, you can ask your friends for comment regarding your voice. If your friends are telling you that you do sound nasal every time you sing, then it is important that you work on correcting your vocals.

Sounding nasal can be corrected you just have to go to a professional voice teacher to correct the way you sound. Enroll in their lesson and start your way to perfecting that voice. Not all are fit to sing with a nasal voice, another thing also is that it is not a very good practice for your voice and vocal chords as it can damage your chords and strain your voice. And eventually it can lead to a more serious problem, more serious by straining your voice.

The best thing that can you do is consult a voice teacher and ask about the cause and the damage it can do to your health. Although it may sound good for some artists like Dylan and Petty but not all are suited for this kind of voice. If you really want to avoid sounding like these, you also need to practice your voice and try to sing from your diaphragm. To do this, observe proper breathing technique and correct posture, if you do this more often you’ll see in just a couple of weeks that your voice eventually has changed and the nasal sound is no longer there.
