Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have a lot to offer to students who are not included in their flagship MBA programs. If you may not know, IIMs also offer students an opportunity to do management and related courses via the distance learning mode. Currently, more than one IIM is providing these courses to students across India but not everyone can register for these programs. These courses have a lot of advantages and disadvantages too.
Some of the advantages of these courses are:
1) The IIM distance learning program gives you the brand name that helps you be recognized in the corporate world. It gives you a tag which you can be proud of and the good rappot that IIMs carry in India and abroad gives you that edge that is so crucial in todays corporate world.
2) Another facet just like any other distance learning program is that of flexiblity and IIM distance learning program is no different. The IIM program gives students the option to follow the course in a flexible manner thus helping them prioritize their life in general. Also, it allows the students to undergo these courses while on job or at home doing things that they love to do.
3) The learning which is imparted via such courses is also enviable given the fact that the course material is designed by one of the best faculties in the world. The curriculum is relevant and packs a punch and students get much to learn from such well devised courses. Another factor worth considering over here is that there are many distance learning courses which offer fluff to students while charging exorbitant fee. However, the IIM distance learning is totally different and allows the students the extra muscle in their studies.
4) For those who are working, a distance learning program such as this can pave the way for advancing further in their career using the skills and brand name they pick up by undergoing a course from the IIMs.
Some of the disadvantages of these courses are:
1) It is very hard to bag a job solely on the basis of these courses. This course is not for those who want to base their career on this but rather for those who want to do complementary studies and add some skills.
2) Just like any other distance learning course, the IIM distance learning course does not equal the benefit of the regular degree. The regular degree has much more value and this just does not match up.
