Baby skin care is more difficult than most people think. Caring for your baby's skin means caring for all of a baby's skin. Newborn infants are especially prone to skin irritations and problems because it takes a while for their skin to get used to the world that exists outside of their mothers' wombs. Proper baby skin care involves making smart decisions all day long. Everything you do from dressing your baby to bathing her will affect her skin. Don't stress out too much though: practicing good baby skin care does not have to be intricate or hard. With some basic common sense, skin care can be incredibly easy. Here are some hints that you can use to help you as you figure out your new routine.

Obviously you want to make sure that every part of your baby's skin that is not covered with clothing gets sunscreen applied to it--including his face and ears. When you take the baby outside give him some extra protection by putting some zinc oxide on his face and ears. Don't forget that sunny days always require a hat or a bonnet! There isn't any such thing as being too cautious!

When you go shopping for your baby's skin care products don't forget to read the ingredients labels carefully. You want to stay away from products that include phthalates, parabens, added fragrances and dyes. These ingredients could irritate your baby's skin and cause rashes and other skin conditions to develop. You don't want to ruin your skin care efforts by accidentally causing a rash or other condition to develop Choose skin care products that won't irritate your baby's skin. If you want to be very careful, before you go shopping again, ask your pediatrician for some suggestions.

From birth to six months of life you will want to do everything you can to keep your baby out of direct sunlight because direct sunlight is too hard on your baby's skin. After your baby is six months old the direct sunlight won't be as big an issue but you still want to make sure that every milimeter of skin not covered with clothing or a hat is covered in strong baby friendly sunscreen.

Covering your baby's head with a hat and shading the two of you with an umbrella are extra precautions you can take. If your baby does get a sunburn help him feel better by applying a cool damp cloth for between ten and fifteen minutes two or three times a day.

There are lots of ways to take care of your baby's skin. Infant skin care does not have to be very difficult or complex. All you need is some common sense and the patience to choose the best products on the shelf and your baby's skin should stay healthy and clean with no problems. Remember that you are caring for all of your baby's skin, not just the skin on his face. Keeping your daughter or son's skin clean and healthy is an all day long type of process but don't worry too much about it. Before you know it, taking care of your son's skin will feel like second nature. Before long you won't think about it at all. It will be a habit!
