The Nintendo DS / Nintendo DSi are both absolutely fantastic gaming systems. But add an R4 DS card to the mix, and a whole slew of homebrew programmers, and you have a hand held console.

1) Lemmings DS The classic is back.Come, amazing game play, mixed with Strategy!

2) Manic Miners The Lost Levels

The tale of Miner Willy and his incredible adventures in the mines, and then the mansions, of Surbiton is legend. But like all legends, it doesn t tell the whole story.

Most people know Willy simply as a digger who got lucky and lived happily ever after in decadent luxury. Far fewer know the secret suppressed for quarter of a century by the government of how he also saved Planet Earth from alien invasion.

It wasn t until an eccentric but dedicated historian writing a paper for a renowned academic journal (Retro Gamer issue 63) pieced together the complete saga of Willy s heroic exploits from fragments of scattered evidence in the form of obscure retellings of the Manic Miner folk fable in ancient languages readable only via long obsolete machines that the whole truth was finally revealed.

Welcome to Manic Miner The Lost Levels!

Lemmings was one of the best games on the Amiga personal computer later ported to the C64 and then the IMB PC s of the day.It was so popular that it went on to have versions made for the PC as well as the C64 computer.I really do believe that it was this game that set the stage for today s strategy and brain training games. All of the original 120+ levels that could be found on the Amiga version of the game, remade for the NDS. So you essentially get every single level that was originally designed and made for the Amiga system, and the c64 too.A must have game for anyone that loves funny, classic style games.

3) Quake DS The original FPS!

It s the original Quake that was released for PC.No need to say any more. Probably THE game that started the First person shooter genre. And now, it is available for the Nintendo DS so long as you also have an R4 DS card to play it on.Masterfully re created for the Nintendo DS, DS Lite and the new Nintendo DSi system.

4) xRick Quite possibly one of the best side scroller / platform games for classic computers like the Amiag and now,the Nintendo DS

Another one of those classic games that you just can t seem to get out of your system. Just put xRick on yoru R4 DS Card and plug it into your Nintendo DS and start playing one of the best platform side scrolling games of all time.Rick Dangerous was the must have side scroller of the day.Anyone that did not have a Nintendo DS system had either one or both of these games in lieu of.Side Scrolling Advanture game truly taken to the max.Great graphics (for the time), absolutely challenging and not to mention, loads of fun!

5) DS Linux Turns Your Nintendo DS into a Portable Computer in your Pocket

Ah yes, DS Linux. Before cards like the R4 DS Card, it was unimaginable for us to be able to load linux onto a system that fit in the palm of our hands. While there are several ports of this even for linux and differend game systems, you can t really truly enjoy it that way you can with an R4 DS in your NDS because of the amazing touch game play. Because you can use your Stylus as mouse, you really get the full benefit of loading all of your favorite linux games, applications, etc... On your Nintendo DS. The R4 DS Card makes it possible to take linux to a whole new platform. If you have a Nintendo DSi, then you ll need the R4i SDHC version of the R4 DS Card.

6) ScummVM Your point and click solution to the best point and Click Games!

If you re a fan, past or present, of point and click adventure games such as Monkey Island, Beneath a Steel Sky, and others, then you must have ScummVM DS.ScummVM is the ScummVM project. The ScummVM project is an attempt to re engineer many classic point and click adventure games of the 80s and 90s to run on modern computer hardware. Technology has changed a lot since these games were written, and so ScummVM attempts to replicate the gameplay of the original games in exacting details, without any of the original code that the game ran on. ScummVM needs a copy of the original game, in order to take the graphics, sound, and scripts that made the game work. ScummVM was written and coded in a manner that quickly and easily allows it to be ported from one operation system / machine to the next.

That s all for this week for now.Next week I will talk about and introduce you to a whole slew of emulators for older computer and console systems, all of which can be played on your NDS with the R4 DS Card
