Today, you may be finding it very challenging to get the job after college that you want after you've graduated. It's tough to spend a lot of time in school, to get out and not find that job or just to settle for something less because of the fear of not getting any job. It makes us wonder, why spend thousands and thousands of dollars in tuition and books for an education, when there is no guarantee to even getting a job in your field? And what about all those college loans that you now have to pay back? What really are the keys to success in life?

It used to be that in years past, if you were a college graduate, you had a very high chance of getting a well deserved job with security and benefits. Now, getting a job after college right away has a much lower chance then ever before. When new graduates enter the job market each year, there is a flood of opportunistic seekers searching for their dream job. Job after collegeApplications from college graduates are crossing human resource desks by the dozens. So how can you make sure you land that job after college that you want? You really must stand out, since there is a lot of good competition out there looking for a job after college also. And what about the unemployed that are looking that aren't recent graduates? And you have to factor in people looking to change careers or stay at home moms looking to get back into the work force.

I attended a recent college graduation party for a cousin. It seemed like yesterday that she was just graduating high school. But here we are four years later, and she's got her college degree. She was able to find a job after college as she had worked at the place of employment during college on a part time basis. She also did some volunteer work there too. I think my cousin did a nice job of branding herself while in college. And that's what you want to start doing if you haven't yet. So was she a part of the lucky "got a" job after college group or was she simply smart in branding approach? If you are looking to get into the "job after college" club too, here are keys to success for finding a job:

1) Volunteer and make connections with people so they remember you.
2) Make sure your resume stands out.
3) Work on scheduling as many interviews as you can, don't just cross your fingers and hope that "this one's it."
4) Practice interviewing very well and know your stuff
5) Dress for success.
6) Study the company carefully that you have an interview with.
7) Attend career fairs consistently and network.
8) Look for ways to make extra income on the side, don't go broke while you are job hunting as that will make you more desperate to accept anything that comes your way.

Whatever you do, don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Even if you get that job after college, you never know about a company's future in today's day and age. Security and benefits should not be dependent upon your job. You've got to take extra steps to prepare for your financial future. Having income on the side has saved people from losing their homes, losing their minds, and gave them an extra funds to realize their goals and dreams. Preparation is the best prevention. For example, a couple on my business team who are in their early 30's was able to put $100,000 in the bank because of earning money on the side even after found a job after college. Can you image saving that? It wasn't money that came from the paychecks. It wasn't money that came from stocks or bonds. This was money they saved on the side from extra income they developed in their spare time. If you want to be smart and create real success, then prepare for real financial security like this couple did by making an extra income on the side even after you obtain a job after college.
