Knowing what parts are inside your computer is important, especially if you want to upgrade you computer and install new parts that might have certain requirements, or maybe you're just curious what's under the hood. There are three rather important parts, these are your central processing unit also known as CPU, there's your random access memory also known as RAM, and then there is knowing what version of windows you're running. It's good to know all of these components so that you don't end up running to the store to buy a new part for your computer and end up finding out it doesn't work, and then ending up not being able to return it.
To find out this valuable information you head over to your start menu, then you right click computer, and then choose properties, in some cases all the information you need will be right here, if you're using windows XP your version of windows is displayed in the system section. Your system speed is measured in GHz also known as gigahertz. If you're running windows XP this is also different, you will find your processor and amount of memory in the computer section. A little tip is that if you are running a 32 bit instead of 64 bit version of windows you can only store 4 GB of ram, if you install more it's useless.
To get even more details head over to device manager in properties, this will show you a list of all of the things that you would normally have installed in your computer. If you press the little triangle next to that device a drop down menu will display that will tell you the exact model of that device. To get to this page in windows XP you would go to hardware tab, and then device manager.
