There are an awful lot of people who take off for Internet Marketing because they think it will allow them to spend their days slacking, playing games, watching tv, shopping, whatever and that they only have to do an hour or so of work every day to keep it up. Obviously this isn't really how operating online works. As with any job, it is the frame of mind that you have that will dictate how much success you find (or dont, as the case may be). Thinking "Yuck, work sucks" that won't help you make any money. If you take it seriously and have a confident frame of mind, however, you could be making hundreds of dollars a day. Here are a few things that will help you.
1. Consider it like a regular occupation because that is what it is: a career. So many new IMers just settle in around the sofa with a laptop and the remote control. They believe okay, Im about to do a bit work but Im still going to have fun. Allowing a television or radio to play in the background as ambient noise is one thing. Parking yourself before it is another. You need a desk to work at. This can help you keep the doing the job time independent from the fun time. Yes, you are most likely going to feel just like you are back at your "typical" job but that's fine.
2. You need to set normal working hours. One of the nicest reasons for IM is that you don't have to work the very same hours that everybody else works. The traditional nine to five mentality doesnt apply after you decide to make your living online. All the same, it is important that you put aside hours each day for work. If you are more productive in the evenings, set aside four or five hours then to do your work. The nice thing is that you can, over time, teach your body to be ready for work at certain times so after a while it wont feel like youre forcing yourself to do anything, youll just be doing it naturally.
3. Have an optimistic view. This probably sounds somewhat cheesy but the simple fact is that staying positive and thinking I can do this can often be what helps you achieve your goals. It is not all that diverse than the way telemarketers are told to truly smile while they are talking because people will be able to "hear" the smile. When you believe to yourself I am great at this, I can do this, or I will meet my targets today that translates into what you do and your clients and customers will pick up on it and believe in you too.
You could possibly be thinking that the whole "it is vital to have a good attitude" thing is trite and best left to daytime talk shows, but it holds true that most success is found by people who have a good attitude. If you set out with "okay money, find me" as your attitude you won't make anything although if you say "okay money, I'm coming for you" you'll produce quite a lot.
