Many people are changing their pets over to a diet of raw dog food. You have probably heard about this trend in canine nutrition. It is not as difficult to do, or as expensive, as you may think. It can actually be less expensive than a dry kibble diet, and your pet's health will be greatly improved.

Your pet is not really that different biologically from wolves and other wild canines. They all have digestive systems that are designed to process prey in its natural state. For a pet, this can be accomplished through ingesting beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and fish. Meaty bones are especially important for dental and digestive health. Raw eggs are also an important source of nutrition.

There are almost immediate benefits to this change in diet. Your pet's coat and breath will not have an odor. His teeth will be cleaner and gums healthier because of the bones. There will be less stool, and it will not be as offensive in odor. You should also find that visits to the veterinarian are reduced because your pet is healthier.

Owners of dogs who have put their pets on a raw diet report that formerly sluggish animals have increased energy. Any allergy symptoms and skin conditions clear up within a few weeks of beginning the new diet. Their obese pets are starting to lose the extra weight, and arthritic dogs have regained a lot of mobility. Overall, canines on uncooked diets live longer and suffer fewer age-related illnesses. Breeding bitches have easier pregnancies, and the puppies are born healthier, and with greater chances of survival.

Cooking meats destroy most of the nutrition they contain. It also destroys enzymes which become increasingly necessary as a canine ages. As they get older, their own capacity for manufacturing digestive enzymes slows down and they must get them from their food source.

You can prepare your pet's meals directly or buy prepared uncooked food. Many people opt to do both. Each option has its advantages, and those who make their pet's meals frequently keep the prepared food on hand for emergencies.

These are very convenient to use. The dehydrated mixes are space saving, and easily rehydrated. A ten pound box of dehydrated food rehydrates into forty pounds of food. This saves you a lot of lugging heavy bags of food home from the store. The frozen packets can be thawed and poured right into the dog's bowl. They all contain fruit and vegetables which many believe provide extra nutrients and anti-oxidants.

If you prepare the meals, you may save money, if you have access to quality meat that is low in price. The food is in its most natural state, and the bones provide extra benefits the prepared foods lack. Adding bones to the frozen or dehydrated meals may be the best way to go.

Your pet can eat a healthy, normal predator's diet when you feed them meat in its uncooked state. This will make a big difference in your pet's health. There are many benefits to making the change from kibble to this type of diet, and it is really not that hard to do.
