Having a conservatory built onto your existing home is often thought of as being the easiest way of owning your own conservatory. Its not always the best way though as this article will explain.
It may be difficult to have a conservatory added to your house and in some cases it is just not possible at all to have a conservatory added due to regulations or structural problems. If your existing house has a north facing rear garden, then when you add a conservatory, it will get very little light and make the conservatory quite cold as well.
If your property is in a certain area, or the house is classed as a heritage property then you will probably have planning permission declined. On top of this, if your house is not detached, it also means that your neighbours will be able to look into your conservatory from their upstairs windows, even if you have a high fence between the two gardens which will mean that the room is not very private.
Rather than going through the hassle, it may be worth thinking about buying a house which already has a conservatory on it. Not only will this allow you to get your new conservatory added to the house but it will also allow you to move to a different area, buy a larger house or even a smaller house if you have had children which have now moved out.
It often works out a little bit cheaper for you to just move house if you want a conservatory, unless you have a house that you really love at the minute. This is especially true if you are looking for a large high quality bespoke conservatory.
You will also get the other added benefits of moving house such as having a blank canvas with the rest of the house. Lets say your bathroom and kitchen could do with being replaced, in which case why not look at houses which have a conservatory and also have nice bespoke kitchens and bathrooms. It will probably work out cheaper and will almost certainly be less stress.
One thing to think about, as with pretty much any house that you are looking to buy is to imagine the house without the furniture that is already in the property. Try to ignore small things such as the colour they have painted the fence in the garden or the conservatory furniture that they have in the conservatory. What you should try to imagine is all of their belongings gone and your own belongings in the house.
