Up from Northamptonshire to Tewkesbury the River Avon passes many beauties and impressive landscapes and structuers but among all the others, the Warwick Castle stands up gloriously. To an observer it seems as if these two natural elements constantly complement each other, Avon on beauty and the castle on strength.

Built by William the Conqueror it was supposed to serve as a defense base for the area but fate had another plans for it. The castle was used as a prison in its lifetime frequently. The most famous prisoner that was held in it was Edward IV king of England along with his wife Margaret of Anjou.

Nowadays most of castles and fortifications seem to be out of their initial purpose and they only act as historic places for attracting curios tourists but The Castle of Warwick has managed to play a more important rule, it has become residence of ghosts. It is said that the castle has been haunt by Sir Fulke Greville. Fulke, a poet, was very keen on the castle and spent a lot to restore it and for some reasons it turned one of the servant furious, he believe that their master paid a lot more attention to the castle but not enough to him. In anger stabbed the master and in a short while turned the knife back to himself and committed suicide. It is said that since then there has been many unexplainable incidents that leaves no option expect believing that the castle is hunted.

The Warwick Castle is enormous. As any fortress is enclosed inside a thick and tall wall with six towers which were used not only for monitoring any suspicious movement around it but also as prisons. Bear and Clarence towers monitor the main entrance, Guy s and Caesar towers are residential with a dungeon in the basement of Caesar tower.

If you are a traveler and only want to stay a few nights in Birmingham there are quite a large number of places to stay near the castle specially a great range of self catering castles around. There is also a great range of hotels from two to five star with rates that would suit everyone.

Hotels like Lord Leycester Hotel which is only a few hundred meters away from the Warwick Castle. This historic hotel offers you everything you expect from a countryside hotel.

If you want to feel the story you can’t go further than Warwick Arms Hotel, dated back to the fifteenth century it is the oldest hotel in the whole area.

For those who prefer the consistent standard of chain hotels, Days Inn Stratford Upon Avon Hotel is recommended.

All of these hotels have been rated highly by real guests and most – if not all of them were pleasantly surprised by the top services provided.

A full access ticket costs around £22 at the time of writing this article which is quite a reasonable price for such adventure. With easy access, low admission price and plenty of places to rest and eat, the Castle of Warwick invites everybody for once in a life time experience. Happy Castle Exploring.
