Sunday Night in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania it was not the same old story for Rick Story. Through three frustrating rounds with freestyle wrestler Charlie Brennaman (Pittsburgh native) Story's hand was not raised, something that has not happened in his six previous fights in the Octagon. Even though Story lost Dana White stated in the post conference that "Story is his kind of guy and that he wouldn't drop in the ranks".
Story was orginally stated to fight Nate "The Great" Marquardt but due to unknown medical reason Marquardt was unable to fight. Story had been training to fight Marquardt for only three weeks after he dominated Thiago Alves (former #1 conetender). This was already a short training camp for Story but to top it off now he had to fight a grappler that he had not trained for on a days notice.
Although the fight wasn't exciting to the typical fan the level of grappling between the two MMA fighters was top notch. Story tried several sumbmissions but never really came close to making Brennaman tap out. Brennaman used a "lay & pray " style not really looking to end the fight but hold dominant position to get a decision victory.
So, what's next for Rick Story the Bethel High School wrestling standout?
I would like to see Story get a couple months to recuperate and get a rematch with Brennamen. I believe that if he had an adequate time to prepare for this fight he would've smashed the Pittsburgh native. Story is in a stacked division but if he strings together another win streak he could find himself in the mix to fight for the title.
