It is possible for you to buy a new house for yourself, or for resale at auction at a massive discount from what the house would sell for normally. There are lots of bargains to be had at auction, however there are even more houses which will either end up going for too much or is just a house that will need a fortune spending on it. More people will end up with a house that they have spent too much on at auction rather than getting an a good deal.
Before even going to the auction room, if you are really serious about buying a house you should go and view the house yourself and possible even have the site surveyed by a professional to reveal any hidden problems. A lot of people will just have a look at the photos of the house in the brochure and then go to the auction room and put their bid in without ever actually seeing the house themselves!
By going to view the house, you will not only be able to check the house over and make sure that you are happy with it, but you will also be able to have a look around the area. The photos in the catalogue will make the house look as nice as possible to try and get people interested, however for all you know it could be right next to a sewage works! If you didn't visit the property, you would have never known about any of these things.
The other thing is that photos can be very misleading. You are able to take photos which do not show certain problems or make them look better than they really are. Photos do not let you get a feel for the quality and standard of finish in the house either. The photos may look high quality and it may look like a luxury bathrooms and bespoke kitchens, however it could be a really cheap and nasty finish which you are not happy with. The photos in the catalogue may show a large bespoke conservatory on the house - however if your neighbors windows look straight into the conservatory then the conservatory is not going to be a very enjoyable room.
Sending somebody that you trust to view the house on your behalf can be the next best thing if you cant go and see the house yourself. If you cant get anyone to take a look for you, at least do a little bit of research on the internet about the area. You should be able to find most things such as crime rates, the condition of the area and any serious problems with the area.
