You need to use relevant keywords where there are low levels of competition, but still a demand. For example you will need to use keywords that have a low number of people competing for them, but they still get searched for quite a bit.
If you pick a keyword that does not get searched for, how are you going to increase search engine rank and experience the benefits when nobody is even interested? That is why you need to use keywords that are relevant to you but is still something that people are searching for on a monthly basis. Once you have used your keywords and written your content, you will need to submit it to both your website and article directories so you can get backlinks. Getting backlinks is VERY important if you want to increase search engine rank. However keep in mind that it is about the quality of your backlinks and not how many you have. You can get backlinks by social bookmarking, submitting to article directories and leaving constructive comments on other people's blogs.
