It is very important that your house is energy efficient as possible in order to save energy and therefore both money and the environment. As well as increasing the security of your house, double glazed windows can help you to reduce the amount of energy it costs to heat your house. If you are looking to make just one change to your house to save money, double glazed windows should definitely be your first choice! However, as with most improvement, there is also a problem! Because of how double glazed windows are manufactured, it is possible that as the window gets older, you may end up with condensation in the window. To help you understand why this occurs we will explain the basics in the rest of this article.

Before looking at how the condensation occurs, you need to understand that the windows are actually made up of two sections, the frame and the glass unit. While the frame is commonly made from PVC, some windows use a suitable metal such as steel or aluminium to create metal window frames. This section does not cause the condensation as all this does is support the glazed unit inside it.

The condensation takes place inside the sealed glazed units, Two sheets of glass are sealed with an air break in between them to form the glazed unit. Condensation occurs when the seal between the two panes is broken which allows moist air into the space between them, This then condenses and causes condensation inside the unit.

Most windows will be covered under the standard guarantee against this for usually 10 years or so. However, depending on who has installed the windows and the quality of them, they may not be covered under the guarantee for condensation. If you do have a guarantee though and that guarantee does cover the breaking of a seal and therefore condensation, simply give them a call and they will send someone out to replace the unit. If you notice that one unit has failed, remember to go around and check all of your other windows before you call the company up to get a replacement as if one window has failed, then there is a possibility that one or more other units have also failed.

If you want the window repairing and you do not have a guarantee then the best option would be to find a local company which may be able to repair the window for you. You will be surprised how affordable the repair is when compared to the cost of a whole new window including frame. While most companies will be able to replace the panes inside normal PVC windows, some may not be able to work with metal windows, in which case you may need to use a specialist company and obviously this will cost you slightly more than if the windows had been PVC.`
