If you are updated with what is happening in the music industry, i’m sure you’ve heard that several famous singers had major problems with their voice, their throat in particular. To name a few, they are Liza Minelli, Billy Joel and Barry Manilow. All of them battled with problems in their throat and greatly affect their singing career. Do you know how to take good care of your voice? You should, to avoid having problems just like those singers.

It is important for you to know that your throat is a very delicate part of your body, it could do permanent damage if you don’t take good care of it. The first thing that you should do to protect your voice is not to imitate the gruff voices of some of the famous singers like Rod Stewart and Janis Joplin. Their voice sounds good but it is not your natural voice not like them, if you insist on imitating them you will damage your throat. You have to be aware of your vocal range so that you can better protect your throat while singing.

If you want to sing in a band, you have make sure you do not try to sing out the band so as not to hurt your throat. Because it is a common issue among vocalists that they cannot sing loud enough and often find themselves battling with the guitars and drums in their band. The thing that you must do is get a louder amplifier, turn the volume of your microphone higher, do whatever you can but you have to make sure that you don’t try to overpower them. Overpowering the musical instruments in your band will cause your throat to strain and damage your voice quality, because you will out border the range of your voice.

If you really love to sing you must take good care of your voice, because if you don’t, you will notice a big difference in the quality of your voice in the long run. Most likely you will suffer painful sore throats and strain your voice. If you want to continue your craft or your passion for singing you should take good care of yourself, particularly your throat and respect it because it is your only source in sounding good.

It is important to practice proper breathing technique when singing even when just talking. It is very vital to support your voice with deep breaths from your diaphragm. The diaphragm is the wall that separates your chest and your abdomen. Professional and amateur singers are taught exercises that improve their breath control. Singing from your throat without supporting your breath puts a great strain on your voice. You should also avoid easy spicy foods because it can cause the stomach acid to move into your throat or esophagus. It is recommended also for singers to drink plenty of water at least 8 glasses a day, so as not to dry your throat, especially during your rehearsals and singing performances.
