Raising children becomes magnified greatly for each additional child you have. Without making an effort not to, it can really be easy to show favoritism for one child over another. We believe this can be difficult to avoid, sometimes and is just part of being human and fallible.
It is possible to keep a healthy perspective, when you are aware of the possibility. The last thing any parent wants is to cause a child to feel unwanted or that he or she is not liked by a parent. Sometimes parents show favoritism without even realizing they are doing it, and the possibility of that should be understood.
Healthy habits and routines are necessary for good parenting, along with consistency. Being part of a family and having responsibilities, is what makes children develop character.
There are very many positive and healthy reasons for doing so. The main reason young children join gangs is because they want to belong, and they don't feel they belong to their own family. Whatever values children learn at home, most often are the values they take wherever they go. Being part of a family and having a goal, gives a child a much better sense of purpose, allowing for a much more disciplined life. A sense of responsibility will also be developed along the way, as well.
Sometimes parents try to live through their children by expecting them to do what the parent was unable to do, and usually children do not like it. Nobody likes washing the dirty dishes, or doing normal chores, but that is not what we are talking about. Taking piano lessons, or having to try out for a particular sport, is the big thing that can be hard for children.
Good intentions of parents are not a good enough reason to force their children to play music or a sport that they don't want to play. Poor performances and frustration is usually the end result of forcing a child to do something without the passion to do it. Parents should find out what their children have passion for and push them in that direction by being honest about their abilities.
What any parent should do is take part in their child's life as much as possible, understand what they are going through, and be there for them during the tough times. The best way to make sure everything goes smoothly is to be a positive role model and have great communication.
