Statistics shows us that demand for tattoos is continuously growing at a fast pace. Now you can even find a small variety of professional tattoo magazines in drug stores and department stores. Wal-mart just closed a deal with Wrecking Balm to begin merchandising their tattoo removal cream products in Wal-mart's extensive chain of stores. This is a result of individuals from all walks of life embracing tattoo art.

The unfortunate news is that although over 25 percent of the United States population currently has at least one tattoo, over 15 percent of them are now displeased with their body art and desire to have at least one of their tattoos removed. Tattoo removal options were once very limited to drastic procedures such as dermabrasion or surgical excision of the inked skin.

Fortunately, our choices to remove tattoos have developed, advanced, and grown along with the tattoo industry. There are several ways to remove a tattoo.

Here are the most common ways:

Tattoo Laser Removal Treatment - Popular and successful but very expensive and known to be very painful. The consensus is it's more uncomfortable than getting a tattoo in the first place and the pain is similar to having a rubber band snapped against your skin repeatedly. Luckily, the appointments are usually kept brief so the discomfort is easier to handle. Some laser clinics will add some type of numbing spray to the area in advance of treatment to alleviate the pain.

Tattoo Removal Cream - Tattoo removal creams are able to be applied at home. These creams break up the pigment of the tattoo over a period of time and eventually causes the tattoo to fade.

Rejuvi - Another type of tattoo removal cream is one which instigates an inflammatory response to the skin tissue. The skin reacts by pushing the pigments out of the skin pores along with the tattoo removal cream.

Surgical removal (excision) - An extreme measure that surgically removes the skin layer along with the ink.

Intense pulsed light therapy (IPL) - This is effective and similar to laser. Also like laser, these treatments are very pricey.

Dermabrasion - A drastic step that is similar to sanding off a thin layer of skin from the body to eliminate tattoo ink. Some scarring may result. A long recovery time is required. The pain involved makes this choice disagreeable to most people.

No matter which election you decide on, your goal to remove your tattoo will likely take months to complete. Be sure of the technique you want to use because you should stick with that procedure until the art is gone.
