The use of a piece of cloth which, as we know today is as scarfs, go back to the ancient Roman times. This was when people used these to keep the dust from getting into eyes and noses, or simply to wipe the dirt and sweat off. Rather than having to constantly lose something to use immediately, these were kept wrapped around their bodies without much thought to aesthetics.

From whence it used to be a scrap of mere functionality, a scarf can take on any look for anyone.
