Everybody has to eat, but the foods that we pick to eat can either have a good or negative result on our planet. Although most people have never considered that the food that they obtain can have this effect. The planet can be harmed in more ways than one whenever you buy certain foods. In the following paragraphs we will be describing how common foods that you obtain in a grocery store can be hurting our planet.

You have to realize that most of the food that you buy in the grocery stores has been shipped from all over the United States. Needless to say there can even be food that has been imported from Canada, Mexico and other countries. You should also recognize that the further away the food is, the more fuel it is going to take to get this food to our supermarkets. To begin with the food will need to go from the farms to a distribution center and this is accomplished by truckers burning fuel. The food is then sent from here to the grocery stores warehouse the location where the foods get inspected again and made ready to be sent out to all the stores. And more fuel is utilized again for the trucks to be able to supply this food stuff. At that time the food will go from the grocery store warehouses and be dispersed to all the stores in the grocery store chains. You have probably already guessed that a lot more fuel is being burned once again to make this happen.

But the worst part is that this isn't the only way we are harming our planet. Many of these farms will be using chemical substances on the food to help them get a better crop. Some of the things that farmers use are different chemical fertilizers and also other types of chemicals that they use in order to get bigger crops. These kinds of chemical compounds are typically sprayed on which ultimately ends up polluting our air and our soil. The other thing you should take into consideration is that no matter how much you wash these things, there will always be trace levels of these chemicals in the food itself as it is brought up by the roots as well as absorbed the foods.

You might already know this but these fertilizers aren't the sole unpleasant chemical that ends up in our foods, in our atmosphere and in the soil. You will see that farmers will even use poison (chemical pesticides or herbicides) to keep insects from destroying their crops. Once they spray this poison, it naturally doesn't only hit the food but it gets absorbed in to the soil and spread all over the air. Another thing I should explain is that these pesticides are poisons that are sprayed directly on the food we eat. Even though the government says these foods that are OK to eat, the fact that they had poison sprayed on them, makes me wonder.

There's a way to avoid all of this and that's by only buying foods that are grown locally and foods that are also organic. This may reduce the amount of pollution from the vehicles transporting the food. Not to mention when these huge farms wind up needing to produce less food, this means much less chemicals which are making their way into our atmosphere, soil and foods. When you care about the earth and your health, buying locally grown organic foods will help both. Choosing To Only Buy Organic And Local Food Can Help Our Planet

Everyone has to eat, but the foods that we choose to eat can either have a good or negative effect on our planet. You have probably never even thought about this but the foods you buy really can impact our planet. However, the foods we eat can be having a negative effect on our planet in more than one way. So we have decided to go over a couple of the negative impacts that can be created by buying certain foods.

One thing that you may never have given much thought to is that in order to get the foods to the grocery stores it is usually trucked in from all over the country. Of course there can also be food that has been imported from Canada, Mexico and other countries. You must also realize that the further away the food is, the more fuel it is going to take to get this food to our grocery stores. First the food will need to go from the farms to a distribution center and this is done by truckers burning fuel. Then once the food has passed inspection, it will be transported to the various grocery store distribution centers. Again this is done by truckers burning more fuel. At that point the food will go from the grocery store warehouses and be distributed to all the stores in the grocery store chains. You have probably already guessed that more fuel is being burned once again to make this happen.

While this is of course bad for the atmosphere, there is another way we are contributing to the pollution of our planet. The farmers that are growing our food are using various chemicals on the food to help insure a good harvest. Some of the things that farmers use are various chemical fertilizers and also other types of chemicals that they use in order to get bigger crops. When the chemicals are sprayed on the plants you will find that these chemicals will not only end up polluting our air but also our soil. While some will argue that the foods can simply be washed off, what about the chemicals that seep into the foods?

Now you also need to know that chemical fertilizers are not the only thing that gets sprayed on these foods. Most of these farms will also use chemical pesticides to kill and bugs that may negatively effect their crop. And of course these pesticides will also be sprayed on, again, polluting our air and our soil. These farmers will also cover the actual foods we are planning on eating in these poisons and other chemicals.. But if you take the governments word for it, there is nothing wrong with the food and it can be eaten. On a side note, why do you think that every year people are getting sicker and sicker with more diseases?

If you decide to only by organic food which has been harvested locally you can do your part to help with this pollution. You will actually be reducing the amount of food that needs to be trucked in. And because this food that you buy which is organic, will not have any chemical pesticides or fertilizers sprayed on them, you will actually be helping to reduce the amount of pollution even more. If you find that the health of the planet and your own heath matter to you, you can actually improve both by simply shopping a little bit smarter.
