If you have a nail fungus infection that won’t yield to your attempts at treating it using home remedies (or with over the counter medications), then the next advisable step would be to book an appointment with your doctor, regarding the same issue. And as you prepare yourself for your appointment with the doctor on nail fungus, you may find yourself wondering what you are going to say, to help the doctor ‘help you better.’ Seeing that doctors’ time with their patients tends to be very limited, it is important that you prepare in advance; so that you don’t go and start fumbling at the clinic (which would mean wasting your time for which you have paid so much).

As you prepare for a nail fungus appointment with your doctor, then, there are at least 3 things you need to do.

1) One is that you need to write down, exactly, what it is that you are experiencing in the name of nail fungus. What are the symptoms that you have been observing? This is important, for you are likely to recall times when you have gone to a doctor, explained what you were feeling, and had the doctor make a diagnosis and a prescription only to remember on your way back home that you forgot what could be an important detail. Hence the need for you to ensure that you have worked out, beforehand, what exactly you are experiencing. Just thinking about it helps bring it ‘closer’ in your memory; so that you can recall it easily when you finally get into the doctor’s room. Better still, if you are given to forgetting things easily, you can actually write down your symptoms: it is better than forgetting important information that can be helpful to the doctor in making the diagnosis for you.

2) Second is that you need to list all medications (and other health products like supplements) that you may be taking. This, by the way, is something you should always do when preparing to see your doctor for any reason, because it has an effect on what the doctor ultimately prescribes for you. Some medications, as it turns out, react badly with others: hence the need for the doctor to know what you are taking, before he or she can work out what to give you now. What you are currently taking could also explain why you are suffering in the first place. So it is material information in this case.

3) Third is that you need to make up your mind, beforehand, what questions you are going to ask the doctor. This is better than starting to fumble in the doctor’s office; while your precious time is ticking away. Examples of things you may consider asking your doctor include whether he or she confirms your diagnosis of nail fungus, what the likely complications from the condition are, what the best course of treatment is, and so on. In case your doctor prescribes medication, it is best for you to ask him or her what its effects and potential side effects are.
