Adults and teenagers suffering with acne not only suffer with the physical aspects of severe acne but also the psychological burden frequently affiliated with facial disfigurement. Acne can do a number on a person's self confidence and self image. Fortunately, dermatologists realize how debilitating severe acne can be and the medical field has had a very strong regimen of drugs at one's disposal to battle this skin condition. In addition to non-prescription and prescription creams and ointments, there are also strong oral medications and even laser to treat acne.

Acne laser skin treatment has been found to be the most powerful with the least amount of side effects. Lasers have been found to be a great way to treat many skin related blemishes and conditions. Lasers are also successful when treating laser wrinkle removal, spider veins, and scar tissue.

Just abouteveryone has dealt with a minor or severe outbreak of acne. Most of us experienced acne in our teens when we were going through puberty. Our hormones cause our skin to over produce oil which leads to clogged pores which is likely to result in acne. Most of us get through puberty and we see a marked improvement in our skin and our days of acne outbreaks are mostly a thing of the past. Unfortunately, some individuals continue to be riddled with blemishes for years to come. Even as adults, acne flare ups on the face, chest and back area may be a skin condition that persists.

If the severity of the acne is minor, over the counter non-prescription ointments may be sufficient in keeping the blemishes under wraps. These products will break up the blockage of the pores. The most common side effect from these ointments is irritated, red skin which will be temporary condition.

If you are dealing with more severe acne, your dermatologist may use systemic treatment. The use of tetracycline antibiotics works well for many individuals. Using these for a long stretch of time may cause your body to build up a resistance to the drug in the future.

Hormonal therapy is another way to fight acne but this method also comes with possible side effects and risks. Peeling skin, dry lips, and possible severe birth defects are all typical conditions affiliated with some of these treatments.

You should weigh the consequences of using prescription drugs with the benefits of laser removal. Although the price is higher, the long term benefits without the dangerous risks of drugs make laser a very appealing option.
