Although the island is far from America, it will really change your life. We arrived and went to Crusoe's retreat. It is well established on the main island. We took a 2 hour drive down the coral coast. We checked in, changed our pants and shirts to bathing suits, locked our phones and left our shoes.
Walking around the white sand beach, we sat down in a lounge chair looking over the amazing blue lagoon. A waiter came up and we got an umbrella drink. "Just think", I said to my husband, "we are sitting here drinking a cool drink and relaxing while looking at the beach when most others are still trying to get to their resort.
It is a small property and is built in the traditional style of Fiji. They have friendly staff, some who are 3rd generation at this property. The atmosphere is relaxed and everybody who stays here gets to look at the blue assure sea and the white sand beach. There is a friendly, traditional village next door. The whole area is lush, tropical and has excellent hospitality.
The village next door was one that we were encouraged to visit and when we did, it was one of our highlights of our trip. The people are so inviting and fun. The kids made friends with our son and taught him how to play a Fijian game. The women let me try making a dish they were preparing and let me taste it too. The men took my husband, Rob fishing, Fijian style. He caught one and we ate dinner with them. What a Kodak moment!
Even though there is a white sand beach in front of the property, it is a lagoon the outside wall is coral. This makes it a great place for snorkeling which I did every day. It is also only 5 -10 minutes away from wonderful dive sites and Rob and I also went diving for a couple of days.
The property also has a pool shaped in a foot. It has a stunning view and a pool side bar that the guests would come to watch the sunset. We also went kayaking most days. Rob and I went white water rafting and zip lining too. They have child care that is reasonable and our son was entertained by the care taker.
They offer tennis and fishing excursions and jet skiing is available close by. We got the meal plan for several days and every morning ate a fully cooked breakfast. They also put on a traditional Fiji show during our stay. It was fun, we got up and joined the dancing and our son got to try drumming. This is a 3 star resort that is so much more.
