Once you have all your equipment need to begin the actual study and learning process, you need to make sure your guitar is properly tuned. It is recommended that you have this done by either a professional or someone who really knows what they are doing.

Now find a comfortable place to play your acoustical guitar, if sitting you will support the guitar on your thighs while holding it with your right hand on the strings (if right handed) and your left hand on the fretboard. You should begin by getting totally familiar with all the parts of the guitar especially the fretboard and you will begin to understand how the different sounds and tones are produced. You will from this moment start to not only hear, but feel the sounds and tone.

The basic chords are the first to learn, it fact these chords must be memorized. The basic chords are C,A,G,E,D, these are not only the basic, but are the essential building blocks for all songs and music you make in the future. Not only are they easy to learn, they are used in most songs played on the guitar. As you continue practicing the basic chords and you get more and more familiar with them, start playing the chords without looking at your fingers, this will help you to play by feel and muscle memory. Over a very short time you will begin to get calluses on the tips of your fingers, at first it is a little painful, but in time this numbness in you finger tips will help you play easier.

Now that you have mastered the basic chords, it is time to move on to the harder chords. To master the acoustic guitar, you must master the Barre chords these will prove to be the most difficult but an absolute necessity so push yourself to master these as well.
