Over the last few years I have spent quite a lot of time and effort optimising different types of websites and blog sites for various reasons. And one of the biggest questions that I get asked all the time is what sort of site is the easiest for search engine optimisation purposes a blog or a static site?
I have optimised both static sites and Wordpress blogs, and both have strengths and drawbacks when it comes to search engine optimisation. Having the capacity to control the website is one of the most significant elements when it comes to seo, whether you are working with a static website or a Wordpress blog. Without control over the site makes things more challenging, you will not be able to to make those fine modifications to the on page elements that can make a massive difference to the way that Bing and the other important search engines rank your site or blog.
Starting with blog sites, search engines like Google absolutely love blogs, by nature a blog sites provide the likes of Google with the up to date fresh content and information that they love and long for. But the trick is to keep the site fresh and up to date with relevant material and that can be hard work at times. If you are going to opt for a blog choose Wordpress, why? For the main reason it's free and user-friendly and uncomplicated even for a complete novice. In addition there are hundreds of extensions for Wordpress which are again totally free, which can be added to your blog that will help to improve the search engine optimisation. Probably the greatest plug-in's that I suggest for Wordpress is the ultimate SEO plug-in, it has everything you need and more to enable you to make those all essential modifications to your pages and posts. Wordpress also has a built in ping service that sends out a ping every time you write a new article, this will help get your content indexed really quickly.
The only problem with Wordpress are the restrictions on the design side of things, unless you are an experienced coder then you are stuck with the layout of the theme that you have chosen, apart from that Wordpress is a good option for anybody who wants to try their hand at a bit of internet marketing. There are a number of blogging software's out there but I have found most of them complicated or with less options than Wordpress.
Static websites are my preferred when it comes to seo, I like static sites specially ones that I have created myself, for the key reason that I can control every last component of the site. Each individual element of the web site has a part to play when it comes down to to seo, the written text and imagery all have to be perfect along with the down load time. A static website can be tuned very easily to have a fast page load time something that I can't do with a Wordpress website. Download times are really critical nowadays because Google and friends want to make the internet a quicker place. I have had a lot of success over the years with static pages more than I have had with Wordpress blogs, but don't let me put you off the idea of Wordpress or any other kind of blog site, there are thousands of Wordpress websites holding first page positions for different keywords spread all over the net.
