There are many different types of printers out there today, and sometimes it can get very confusing. Do you remember when there was only one type of printer? If you are old enough, then you probably remember the huge Dot Matrix printer that sat on its own stand, utilising a stack of paper almost as tall as the stand itself. Every time it was issued a print command, it would screech and shake the floor. Those were the days weren t they?

Now we have so many more printers to choose from. They have different names, serial numbers, and sometimes it is difficult to tell which is which. Today however we will be taking a look at the colour multifunction printer. So what exactly is it? Well, let s have a look!

When one refers to a multifunction device, they are talking about something that is built for one purpose, but in doing so is in fact able to actually fulfill many different purposes. In the case of a multifunction printer, it is a device that can do its standard printing job, but has other peripherals attached to it. Why exactly? One of the biggest reasons for having a multifunction device is to save space.

For instance, many multifunction color printers will include a scanner. If you think back, then you probably know that scanners were large objects that took up quite a bit of desk space. When a scanner is built directly into the printer, you will have a lot more room, and it will most likely be cheaper than buying a standalone scanner.

Some printers have fax machines built into them. You might think that the fax machine is a thing of the past, but it is in fact alive and well – particularly within businesses requiring quick sign offs. Having one of these built into your multifunction printer can save you yet more desk space, and will save more money. Of course if you do not use a fax machine it might well be surplus to requirements.

One of the most important aspects of a multifunction color printer is its ability to photocopy. This is a significant leap forward when you consider that standard copy machines are usually large and cumbersome – not to mention very expensive. These might not be as fast as larger copy machines, and they might not have the same paper capacity, but you can be assured that they will get the job done in a pinch.

With all of these features combined into one package, it s hard to imagine that anyone would NOT want to own a multifunction color printer. The most important thing here is that you purchase your printer from a tried and well established manufacturer. These are very expensive products and you want to make sure that you get the printer that will meet your needs. There are many different models to choose from and many different brands. So keep this in mind when you decide to go shopping, whether you go to an actual store, or utilise the internet. In the end, it all falls to the decision you make. So make it a good one.
