How much do you know about plastic surgery? In today's society many people get plastic surgery, whether it's breast enhancement, a nose job, a tummy tuck, or a face life. Plastic surgery helps people quickly get the results they wanted without years of trying to lose weight or to change things about themselves they always wished was different. While the instant gratification of suddenly getting the nose you always wanted after your nose job can be nice, there are certainly many debates on whether or not people should get plastic surgery, especially in conservative areas.
Â
There are certainly many people out there who believe that plastic surgery is selfish and frivolous, especially for people who get liposuction or a boob job. They argue that changing your body is materialistic and disrespectful. They may accuse someone of getting breast augmentation to be slutty or someone getting a nose job of being vain.
Â
However, while they may be right that sometimes plastic surgery isn't necessary, that doesn't mean that plastic surgery is a sin, and in fact there are many times where plastic surgery is a very good thing. Cosmetic procedures used for plastic surgery aren't always just used to make someone achieve their ideal body image. Many people who receive plastic surgery actually are getting a plastic procedure to correct the damage done in an accident. For example, burn victims and people seriously injured in automobile accidents are very grateful for plastic surgery, which allows them to look normal again, and to feel confident in their appearance. It isn't fair to give all plastic surgery a bad rap when plastic surgery can restore normalcy to a person who has endured traumatic events and has been disfigured by them.
Â
While these are extreme examples, plastic surgery can also be used to fix smaller problems. For example, after sewing through my finger with a sewing machine and getting a piece of needle stuck inside the bone, the only way to make my finger normal again was to have a minor plastic surgery. There are also instances where women cannot lose all the weight they gained during pregnancy, and the stretched out skin causes them embarrassment or trouble functioning the way they did prior to the pregnancy. In this type of situation a woman's best option may be to get a tummy tuck, but this doesn't equate to them being obsessed with their body image.
Â
Plastic surgery can also greatly help people for medical reasons. For example, people born with cleft pallet or microtia would suffer large disadvantages in life without the use of plastic surgery. Plastic surgery can help give people born with problems a higher functioning body.
Â
So before you take sides on the plastic surgery issue make sure you consider all the sides. Some people may get plastic surgery for purely cosmetic reasons, others may get plastic surgery for face or body reconstruction, and still others need plastic surgery to live healthy, normal lives. Each person getting plastic surgery has a different story and a different reason for getting plastic surgery, so while you may not want to get cosmetic surgery yourself, realize that others may have their reasons for doing so.
