Do You Have Pain from Cracked Heels?
Â
Do you have super dry, red feet? Do your cracked heels look SCARY? Is it painful to walk? If so, I feel your pain! Cracked heels are nothing to laugh about, they hurt! Anyone who has had cracked heels knows how painful they are and how hard they are to treat. Well, I'm here to tell you from personal experience with cracked heels what I've found to be helpful in treating cracked heels, and how to avoid cracked heels in the first place. Armed with this information you can rest assured your cracked heels will be a thing of the past!
Â
What ARE cracked heels anyway?
Â
If you have dry, red, skin and feet you may have the first signs of cracked heels. When your feet get extremely dry a callus forms on the outside ring of your heel. When this callus on your heel gets drier and thicker, and has pressure from walking or standing, it CRACKS! This is when you know you have CRACKED HEELS! These cracks or fissures on your feet can be very small cracks or large, deep cracks. When the cracks get longer and wider, they can be very painful. Think of it like a tomato on a counter and you take the heel of your hand and press down on it. It won't take long before the pressure on the tomato makes it POP and CRACK, right? That's exactly what happens with our feet - when our feet get very dry and they have a lot of pressure put on them, they CRACK! Ouch! Those cracked heels hurt!
Â
CAUSES OF CRACKED HEELS and dry feet:
Â
- Wearing thin soled shoes with no heel support.
Â
- Being overweight.
Â
- Having diabetes.
Â
- Too much prolonged standing on your feet.
Â
- Wearing open shoes or sandals.
Â
- Having a skin condition, such as eczema or psoriasis.
Â
What can I do to TREAT my cracked heels?
Â
Is there really a treatment that works for cracked heels? I'm happy to report, YES! Through research and personal experience with cracked heels and dry feet, I have found these treatments REALLY WORK for cracked heels:
Â
- Apply a foot cream or moisturizer twice a day on your cracked heels.
Â
- Remove the thick callus on your heel by using a pumice stone EVERY TIME in the shower. The crack won't heal unless the callus is removed.
Â
- Wear closed shoes to keep in moisture.
Â
- Apply moisturizer on your cracked heels before bed and put socks on to keep your feet moist.
Â
- Try to limit prolonged standing.
Â
- Don't take super hot baths or showers.
Â
If your cracked heels get worse, call a doctor!
Â
If these treatments don't help your cracked heels, call a dr ASAP! A doctor can diagnose your feet and heels, prescribe medication, or "strap" your feet to hold the cracks together so they can heal.
Â
Just follow the advice given here and your cracked heels and feet will be pain-free in no time!
