IMCloud is a social tool that integrates into the IBM Sametime Client. It helps capture valuable chat discussions between business roles and convert them into reusable web pages. The web pages are indexed and stored on an IMCloud server. Users can retrieve their interactions from the Sametime UI or they can be accessed through the IMCloud search engine. This facilitates users to efficiently answer redundant questions and provides an entry point to search for past discussions. For example, a tester role can search for existing developer discussions or answers on the latest product before contacting the developer directly.
The IMCloud Client also provides an anonymous question and answer service which spreads the work load of answering questions across the organization or IMCloud server. Users dont have to blindly ping a single person to find an answer to a question or search for a forum. Answered questions are added to an individuals published works. Using Sametime or the IMCloud server these works can be accessed and reused. It also identifies subject matter experts and creates a team oriented environment.
One of the most requested features is the ability to encrypt and back up chat history remotely. Using the Import and Export function within the client users can privately back up and merge chat histories. This is helpful when migrating to new machines or just backing up valuable chat information. IMCloud uses 128 bit encryption during compression of history files. All history is backed up on multiple servers. IMCloud offers free usage of its public servers and client. It also provides client/server licenses for private business use.
