With the year quickly drawing to an end the tax season is just around the corner and many individuals will wait until the last minute to get their affairs in order. Tax season is stressful for almost anybody but those that are not prepared when the time comes to fill out the paper work and pay your taxes will be much more stressed than those who stay organized throughout the year or prepare well in advance of the season. It may seem like a tedious chore but keeping track of the paperwork you will need when the time comes will result in less stress during one of the most stressful times of the year. If you are not one of those people that has kept organized though there are a number of things that you can still do in order to relieve some of the stress and make the beginning of 2010 more enjoyable.

As you are going through all of your Christmas decorations and in January putting them away take the time to break out any boxes containing documents you will need for tax season as well. Gather up and receipts you may have for tax write offs, gather information you may need about any property you may own, get together statements you might need regarding school or home loans, and find any necessary information regarding the school district you live in. If you take the time to sort through all of this stuff and put it into a folder so it will be ready when you need it you will find that you are rushing around frantically trying to find the information you need less when it comes time to do your taxes.

If you re like most people you will likely find your pay stubs in a variety of different places from your bedroom to your vehicle to a shelf in your kitchen. Before tax time comes you should get together all of your pay stubs and keep them in a large envelope in case you end up needing them. Although not everybody will need their pay stubs it will be a big help if you end up getting audited or need them for some other reason. Gather them now and you will not have to worry about rushing to find them later.

Finally, it will also help you in the future if you speak to a tax advisor early. Waiting until tax season actually starts means that you may have trouble getting the time you need from an advisor due to the larger work load. Take advantage of the extra time they have before the season starts and you will not have to fight for their time. Talking to a tax advisor can be beneficial to you and your family and can save you money on things you may not have known you could.

Tax season can be extremely stressful, especially for those with complicated returns, so start early and not have to worry in the beginning of the year about getting everything done in time.
