Cockroach Allergy

Cockroaches are common allergy-causing culprits found inside the home. Crowded and dirty places are the common habitats of these insects. Did you know that house dust may also contain proteins of cockroach droppings and saliva?

If you are suffering from severe asthma, you might want to consider checking your house of cockroaches. Asthma is a clear symptom of cockroach allergy. These pests inhabit even in spotless areas and old houses. They exist in the natural environment. The bodies and droppings of cockroaches contain allergenic proteins as well as its saliva.

Sulfite Allergy Explained

A group of naturally occuring, sulfur-based compounds called sulfites are sometimes used as food enhancers and preservatives. Sulfite sensitivity occurs in one out of a hundred individuals in the US. Sulfite sensitivity develops at any time of life. The exact cause for this is still unknown even today.

A reaction to sulfites vary from mild to fatal in sensitive individuals. The use of sulfites on certain produce was banned in 1986 by the FDA. A law by the FDA mandates the listing of sulfites on product labels by manufacturers adding sulfites to their products. Adding sulfites to cooked and processed foods are being done by certain manufacturers. Sulfites are present during the production of beer and wine.

For sensitive individuals, the only way to prevent a reaction is to avoid foods that contain or may contain sulfites. Habitually reading food labels should be practiced by sulfite sensitive individuals. Refer to a chef or restaurant staff to inquire whether sulfites have been added to your food.

Allergy Overview

The most common symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, wheezing, itchy eyes, and skin rashes. There are various ways a person may come in contact with the allergen and the allergic reaction is dependent on it.

E.G., dermatitis may occur when a person accidentally applies lotion which contains chemicals he is allergic to, or he may experience vomiting if he eats food he is allergic to, or he may have difficulty of breathing if he inhales pollen on the air. Genetics play a role on the occurrence of allergies. You are said to have atopy if this happens. Girls are less likely to inherit allergy. On the contrary, babies who are born light in weight are more prone to develop inherited allergy. The allergic reactions may range from mild to severe.

Neglected cases may be life threatening. This is also known as anaphylaxis. Being a medical emergency, anaphylaxis must be attended to right away.

Latex Allergies

Latex gloves use have countered the transmission of infectious diseases to healthcare workers. A few number of workers, particulary healthcare workers, have experienced allergic reactions to latex. It is believed that latex exposure is a relevant link in these instances. Natural rubber from the milky fluid of the Hevea brasiliensis rubber tree is alluded when mentioning "latex"

Although synthetic rubber may be called "latex", the proteins responsible for latex sensitivity is not present in synthetic rubber. Certain proteins in natural latex rubber causes the reaction in latex allergy. It is unclear to how long a person should be exposed to latex to garner sensitization. An increase in latex protein exposure also means an increase in the risk of the development of latex allergy symptoms.

Hay Fever Allergy Overview

An allergy like hay fever is caused by pollens. Allergic rhinitis can take two forms. It can seasonal, which occurs during specific times of the year. It can also be perennial, which occurs throughout the year.

Nonallergic rhinitis and hay fever ahve similarities, but they differ on the type if reaction. If an individual suffers from spring time hay fever, the cause of that allergic reaction may be tree pollens. During summer, allergic reactions may be caused by grass and weed pollens. Although fungus spores and weeds can be present all the time, these can pose as problems from late March through November. Indoor allergens may cause some allergic reactions to people with perennial hay fever.

Curtains, beddings, pillow and carpets are common places where one can find dust mites, animal dander and feathers. Mold, a common allergen, can be found in bathrooms and basements.
